I photographed my friend Heather last summer, about a week before I left Seattle, she was married about a week after I left. It's taken me a ridiculously long time to post this (sorry Heather!), every time I look at these photos it makes me miss Seattle terribly, I think I subconsciously put it off until I could handle it emotionally.

Our friend Will (assistant art director) was with us for this shoot, it was in September but I remember it being hot. Indian summer, as I like to call it. These shots were taken at Fisherman's Terminal in Ballard. No one fell in the water, but I don't know if we would have been as lucky a second time, so Im glad we got some good shots the first time. I still talk with Heather and Will on a daily basis, we work together, but I miss them. Oh sigh, I need to go back and visit!

I basically harassed Heather until she agreed to let me do a bridal shoot with her. She made such a beautiful bride with a vintage flare. She has now been happily married for a solid 4 months and told me today that her and her husband Michael have taken the next step in their relationship and are picking up their new dog, tonight! Heather and Michael congratulations on your marriage, I wish I could have been there to see you officially tie the knot, and eat a piece of your wedding pie ;)

Susana and Chris!

Even with the very unpredictable weather of the Midwest, Susana and Chris celebrated their October wedding on a perfect Friday afternoon. It's no wonder the sun shone down on these two as they celebrated their vows. Susana and Chris are caring, compassionate, and wonderfully fun people. It's always a pleasure to see two wonderful people come together, and an even greater pleasure to be able to document it.

This wedding was a lot of firsts for me, first time in Chicago, first wedding in the midwest, first time in a limo (a HUGE limo!) I was really lucky to have been with Susana, Chris and their family and friends, they were so accommodating and considerate of me. I really can't say enough good things about Susana and Chris and am just very thankful to them for an incredible experience! Congratulations on your new life as a married couple, I can't wait to photograph your babies ;)

Meet Grant and Carrie and their two beautiful children Grant Jr. and Emma Rose. Grant is a cousin to my husband Brett and they grew up together here in central IL. Grant and Carrie actually moved back to the area the same week that Brett and I did, them from Orlando and us from Seattle... crazy, right!?! I was incredibly lucky to visit them at their home last week on one of the most beautiful autumn evenings that I've ever experienced (they don't make them like this in Seattle). The golden hour was heavenly and the warm fall air was incredible. I had so much fun photographing little Grant and capturing his wonderful personality and energy, he is the sweetest big brother I've ever seen in action. Little Emma is just 4 months old but greeted me with a big smile and she didn't fuss once about having her photo taken. Anyway, I had such a great time doing this shoot that I could blab on forever, but I will let the photos tell the rest of the story. There were so many great ones it was hard to pick just a few! Enjoy :)

Fantastic Fall Family Fun!

Something amazing happened last Sunday... I had my first Midwest photo shoot! I couldn't have asked for a more perfect day or a more enjoyable group to work with! Two families means two moms, two dads, two aunts, two uncles and three cousins! I had a blast watching this extended family interact and bring out the fun in each other. They even showed me around Shelbyville a little and we had the opportunity to walk the lovely Dacey Trail at what I suspect one of it's most beautiful times, Fall. Enjoy a this selection of photos from our shoot, the first few from the car dealership and shop that the parents/grandparents of this group own and operate, and the second half from our afternoon on the Dacey Trail.

The Kaufmans 3.0!

This is the third time I'v spent time with the Kaufmans photographing their awesome family. This time they were accompanied by Great Grandma Shoshana and newest addition Levi, who I photographed last winter when he was just 14 days old (notice his super cool shirt). This was one of the few "hot" days that I spent in Seattle before leaving, and it was a fine day for photos. Each of the Kaufman kids have a special and vibrant personality that I hope translates through the photos. I will very much miss photographing the Kaufmans... and will certainly be letting them know whenever I go back to visit :) Enjoy these fun shots from an amazing Seattle afternoon.

You may recognize Maria and Joseph from a blog post last summer which was in fact before they were even engaged. Well a year later and they've tied the knot and are now enjoying life as a married couple, which I believe will benefit the universe every day.

Emily and I had such a great time photographing their amazing Seattle wedding. The ceremony was held at St. Joseph's on Capital Hill and the reception at the UW Arboretum. It was the perfect wedding to finish our Seattle wedding season.

29 Weeks and Counting

Phil and Kate, soon to be "mom and dad", are happily expecting a baby girl. Kate's a good friend, and I was really excited to document this point in her pregnancy. She is sporting the most ideal little baby bump. The photos speak for themselves, as little baby clay is already very photogenic :) Congratulations Phil and Kate, November will be here before we know it! OH, and although this is their first human baby, Phil and Kate's newborn will come into this world with a big brother... Harvey, the pooch! He is pictured below as well, check it out!

Beyond the sea of people that flooded the streets of Belltown for Hempfest last week, Monica and Brian were getting hitched just down the road at the quiet and perfectly quaint, Alexis Hotel. With just 30 of their closest friends and immediate family as witnesses they said goodbye to single life and began a wonderful new chapter together. Emily and I are both so thrilled for Monica and Brian, two of the most sincere and truly happy couples we've met. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Fall!

Mike and Monica (on the loose in Georgetown)

I had a really fun time last night working with Mike and Monica, I was totally yearning for one of these truly fun Seattle summer shoots. I know these two from the days of Picnik glory. Mike is a cofounder of the amazing photo editing tool, that I still use for so many of my editing needs.

I asked them how they had met and they entertained me with their awesome story. Two techies, working for Microsoft with the same last name. Mike and Monica soon became the unstoppable Harrington duo. 21 years of marriage and they are still just as happy and fun as a pair of newlyweds. Check out the photos!

I felt obligated to truly "picnik" one of the photos... the shades felt appropriate.

Cutest family ever, and growing! I'm really happy I was able to spend the morning with Kristi, Charlie, and Wyatt on Saturday. It was the third time I've been able to photograph Wyatt, and it was great to be able to squeeze in one last photo shoot before I leave Seattle. Sonia and Carlos

This coming spring I will have known Sonia for 4 years. She is one of the most dynamic, intelligent, and loyal people I know. Before she started dating Carlos, and after I had known her for about a week, she informally (jokingly even) hired me to do her engagement and wedding photography. Im thrilled that this silly agreement actually came to realization after she met the love of her life, Carlos, and I was able to share in their special day! Both Sonia and Carlos are driven and adventurous people. I am so excited about the life they are starting together, and know they will be an unstoppable force. Carlos was an amazing sport during the wedding photography, he had seriously injured his knee just a few days prior to the wedding and still allowed me to drag he and Sonia all over the grounds of the Landmark Events Center for photos! Congratulations Sonia and Carlos, your wedding was beautiful, and the dancing was pretty incredible too!

There are so many things that I can say about Sarah and her husband Travis and what incredible parents they are going to be in just a few short weeks. I am so lucky to have been as close to Sarah as I have been through her pregnancy. The joy I feel for Sarah and her growing family is overwhelming. I think the photographs tell the story of her inner beauty and the love that she has for this child that she has grown. Kristen and David, Hitched!

My first all film wedding, photographed for Kristen and David, one of the most unique and inspiring Seattle couples that I've worked with. Kristen and David were wed at Greenwood's Gainsbourg just a few short blocks from their home. A small gathering with their closest friends and Kristen's daughter Addy made for a wonderfully intimate gathering and a truly special day. I told Kristen that she was the most agreeable brides I had ever worked with, and felt compelled to announce this to the world in this blog post, because it was a very sincere statement.

Very late the night before Kristen and David's wedding my digital camera started giving me a digital error. After countless hours of trouble shooting with the help of online forums, I resolved that my camera was not going to be the lucky apparatus to capture Kristen and David's special day. So early the next morning with a backpack stuffed full (I mean FULL) of film and three cameras dangling around my neck I made it over to Kristens house. She was enchanted with the idea of an all film wedding, and I couldn't be happier at how it all worked out. I love the raw and honset feeling of the whole set, and found it very hard to edit down the number of frames to share in this blog post. I hope you enjoy this selection of photos of a very lovely Sunday wedding in Seattle.

A mother/daughter session on Mothers Day at Lincoln park was the perfect way to recognize mothers day and Lillian's 6th birthday that occurred just one day earlier. Lillian is a special six year old who loves dinosaurs, crab hunting, racing and has more energy than anyone I've ever met. It was so much fun spending the day on the beach with Lilly and her mom! Seattle couple Stephanie and Matt are on the cutting edge of awesome. Yesterday afternoon the sun was spillen it's guts and the wind was blowen around good vibes. We strolled around upper Queen Anne, used their super rad sunglasses as props, and the smell of world class doughnuts and fire roasted pizza was in the air. This was a really cool engagement session, and Emily and I are totally stoked to shoot Stephanie and Matt's wedding this fall.

Meet Emi,

Ballard girl, doggie lover, purse carrier, speed walker, noodle eater, and free spirit who loves the feeling of wind blowing in her face. This little lady is special, I know that after meeting her just twice and it's obvious after seeing the glimmer in her big beautiful eyes. It was a joy spending an hour with Emi this past Sunday photographing her as she experienced the Ballard Locks. Jordan and Cara

The first wedding of the year, I had almost forgotten how good it feels to be surrounded by love and happiness while photographing a wedding. Jordan and Cara are in Disleyland/Las Vegas honeymooning right now, which is just so completely appropriate for them. They are young, fun, creative, and sincere. Adam and Ashley

Adam and Ashley are getting married in July, and yesterday we spent the day in Fremont documenting their engagement. I can't wait to photograph their outdoor wedding this summer. Saturday afternoon the clouds parted, for the first time in who knows how long, and the sun shone just for Sonia and Carlos (seriously). It was a perfect day for a photo shoot in downtown Tacoma and we spent the whole day exploring, laughing, and engaging in good conversation. Meet my sister, Emily (aka Sue Ellen). My highly creative and wonderfully fun sister moved to Seattle at the end of the summer. While staying with our parents she discovered this fantastic dress, which was in fact our grandmothers prom gown from the late 50's. She fits it, so we had to turn it into a photo shoot. Whenever I photograph someone close to me, I see them as someone different and that is why I named her Sue Ellen.

New Years Eve day was well spent this year with this little man. Boston is the three month old baby of a wonderful couple, Jill and Dane. I had the pleasure of photographing Jill and Dane's engagement and wedding photos, they have since relocated to Spokane but family has them back in the area, and I was more than excited when they asked me to photograph their little family! Boston has so much personality and an adorable smile, he's truly the happiest baby I've ever met. Im so happy for Jill and Dane, this little blessing couldn't be given to a more deserving pair! A winter day at Seattle's market, with a family home for the holidays, must have been one of the most joyful parts of my season so far. As of 2011 the Fishers will be split, half in Seattle and half in New York City. Though far apart they will always be close in spirit, it's easy to see how close knit this family is. It was a beautiful day in Seattle for a photo shoot. This inspired Seattle couple chose this little park in Revenna to be photographed, it was stunning. Laurel and Thomas own a local green cleaning business, they bike all over Seattle carrying their cleaning supplies in trailers towed by their bikes (more photos of their bikes and business coming soon!). This weekend I was invited to Magnolia to photograph this wonderful family. Meet Nicholas and his mama and papa! We were so lucky to have the most beautiful fall day to hold this portrait session. Colleen and Paul invited me to a farm where they keep their amazing horses and we were able to use the whole property for the shoot. Just imagine a day on a perfect little farm, with the iconic red barn, galloping horses, a duck pond and a big rusted out GMC truck. On top of a great setting, Paul Colleen, and little Nicolas were such a pleasure to work with! And seriously, could Nicholas be any cuter?? I think not! Enjoy a few photos from this wonderful day!

Ali (below) invited me to photograph her and her close friend of 20 years, Carly. This session was completely magical. Ali lives in a fabulous old Seattle apartment which made the perfect set for our fashionista inspired shoot. All the wonderful props photographed are also hers, I was in heaven. This felt like an Anthropologie catalog shoot to me (not that I would know what that feels like) but seriously, gorgeous models, beautiful set, etc... so much fun!

This is Ruby. She's four, has a chicken costume, sings on a whim, dances to mimic the sea, is cautious of oversized garage doors, and is a fabulous little model. All these things I learned about her today in our photo session with her papa, Steve. Had an awesome session with little cruiser today, she is really one of the sweetest babies i've ever met and was thrilled to photograph her. Last Tuesday was her first birthday and she's already walking all over the place. She's a busy little bee, but I managed to get a couple stills of her... enjoy the sneak peak at this session!

I've been obsessing, for the past several years, about life in America in the 50s and 60s. I've dedicated a lot of my photography to this obsession, and have spent a lot of time searching and discovering antiques from this era.

I've been thinking about how I can change my life and become more involved in these things that fascinate me so much. I've decided to dedicate this weeks photography to the 1950's, if it goes well Im considering starting a Flickr group for it, if you're also interested in this sort of thing, voice it!

Also it seems that there has been a lot of buzz around snail mail lately. I coincidently picked up these old letters (featured in this post) while vintage shopping yesterday and then received a message from my great friend Liz about the effort Shutter Sisters is making, and the discovery of The One Hundered Postcard Project . I do find letters and classic mail fascinating especially when it was the primary way of communicating with friends, family and lovers who were away.

Please speak up if you have similar interests in 1950s and 60s fashion, music, lifestyle, etc. Do you use it as inspiration in your photographs?

Involuntary Faces

I love the idea of finding faces in ordinary things. It allows me to fantasize about all these random objects being is alive. They just sit around wherever they've been positioned and they chat with other near by faces from time to time. They watch the world go by, and are wise because they observe everything. They know secrets but they never tell. They are polite because they never interrupt, and are often times grinning. Some last forever, and others are only in existence for a moment.

These faces are actually really hard to find at first, but when you start looking for them, they're everywhere, and its fantastic! How many faces can you find?

Happy Birthday to Me

Well the day has come, tomorrow I turn a quarter of a century old. I've been thinking a lot about my birthday, I've never really dwelled on age or the significance of a birthday, but for some reason this time it's different for me. I feel like turning 25 is some sort of milestone. When I was 21 I moved to Seattle and met Brett (husband), when I was 22 I had our first baby, Jude. When I was 23 Brett and I got married, and when I was 24 we had our second baby, Lennon. So now Im 25, Im embarking upon a lifetime of motherhood, and Im determined to maintain my identity. It's time to start focusing on goals and finding a way to make those goals reality. The past 4 years have just been a whirlwind and I want to slow down, really just stop and appreciate all the little blessings that we encounter every day. I want to get out into the world and experience wonderful things with my family and make incredible memories. I want to try exotic foods, listen to every genre of music, meet and appreciate people from all walks of life and travel anywhere and everywhere. Can you relate?

Soaking up Inspiration

Inspiration means so much to me. I live, breath, learn, feel, and am fueled through inspiration. Browsing through photos, watching beautifully made films, listening and discovering music, having conversations with amazing people, these are all things that I love doing and extract inspiration from. I've sorta been on inspiration overload the last couple of weeks (and thats the sorta thing that just sparks up when ever it wants to). It feels good, so I'll bask in it. The Art of Photo Editing

I've been thinking a lot lately about post processing and what it means to a photographer. For me, editing in post is half the fun, and by working at Picnik I've become something of an expert in it. I believe that post processing is an art in itself and it's one of the great advantages of the digital era. A lot of people ask me about the way I edit my photos, and how I do it, so today I'll share it with all of you in a few easy steps.

Now like I said before I work at Picnik and because of that I always use Picnik, no exceptions... so this will be more of a Picnik lesson than anything else. If you don't know what Picnik is, its an online photo editor. It works right inside your browser so that you can access it any time, any where. The premium features cost a little money, but its well worth it.. the best thing is that tons of the features can be used completely free of cost.

1. First I always access Picnik directly at http://www.picnik.com/app going through Flickr or other sites is fine, but doesn't give you all the full advantages of using the app directly. Upload the photo you want to edit and apply the essential edits first. Im a big fan of the straighten tool (hate a crooked horizon), the exposure tools (may be up the contrast slightly) and the crop. Choosing an interesting crop is key when editing your image. Some like a square crop others like to keep the photo ratio, at any rate cropping a photo can take it to the next level.

2. Once your image is cropped, straightened, and all that boring stuff, use the Clone tool to clone anything out that just doesn't work in the image, or that seems to be too distracting from the subject. Cloning is an art in itself, so if you aren't a master at first, don't worry, it takes time and patients to master that tool.

3. Now its time to add some effects. Im a big lover of the vintage processing effects, like cross process, polariod, velvia, etc. combining effects like these can create really unique and wonderful treatments.

4. As many of you know, or can see... Im a big texture fan. Picnik makes adding textures pretty easy (as long as you are a premium member). While you're editing your photo click on the photo basket at the bottom of the page. If you don't already have a texture layer uploaded, click "upload photo" and upload one from your computer. You can get some great free textures from Les Brumes or Dubtastic on Flickr Drag your texture onto your existing photo, stretch it by holding the shift key and dragging the box to fit. Then use the advanced blend modes to blend your texture just right. My friend Brenda has a great tutorial on how this can be done Here

5. Finally, you may want to add a watermark.. This is really easy to do, just click on the text section in the Create tab on Picnik and add your copyright, then use the advanced blend modes to create the perfect watermark (I usually choose the overlay blend mode).

Ladies and Gentlemen... Im proud to introduce my new blog! The reason I love photography is that so often I find something so visually interesting that I'm moved to share it with as many of you as I can. Sometimes Im lucky enough to capture these beautiful moments through the click of my own shutter, other times I find these fascinating visual inspirations through the work of other photographers. This blog serves not only to keep you updated on the world of cfisherphotography, but also to share with you the inspiration that drives me.

My first photographic post is a collection of some of my favorite shots from a volunteer event that I attended at Marra Farms in South Seattle on Friday. I think the image is appropriate because it illustrates growth and new life. Enjoy!
